What Android Auto Does

Android Auto connects a compatible Android phone to a compatible car display, bringing selected driving-focused apps onto the dashboard. It suits drivers who want navigation, communication and audio controls in one interface without handling their phone while on the road. The app is developed by Google LLC and is listed in the Auto & Vehicles category.

Navigation and Communication

With supported navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze, Android Auto can provide turn-by-turn directions, traffic information and route changes through the car screen. Voice controls can help drivers place calls, hear incoming messages and send replies where the messaging app supports Android Auto integration. These functions are designed to reduce the need to look down at a phone.

Audio in the Car

The interface also brings compatible music, podcast and audiobook services into the vehicle. Large controls and a simplified layout make common actions easier to reach at a glance, while voice commands can be used for tasks such as choosing audio or asking for directions. Available services depend on the apps installed on the phone and the vehicle's support.
