Google Maps

Maps, routes, and places

Google Maps is a navigation and local search app for people who need to get somewhere, find a business, or understand an unfamiliar area before visiting. It supports driving, walking, cycling, and public transport directions, with route guidance designed for everyday trips as well as travel in new cities.

An address for the next stop

Search for restaurants, shops, services, landmarks, hotels, and other nearby places, then compare useful details such as ratings, opening information, photos, and user reviews. Business listings and map pins make it practical for choosing where to go, while Street View and other imagery can help you check the surroundings, entrances, or nearby roads before setting out.

Useful when the signal is not

Selected areas can be saved for offline use, which is helpful when travelling internationally or moving through places with weak mobile coverage. Live traffic information can affect driving routes, and transit details help users plan journeys involving buses, trains, or other public transport. The amount of information can also make the map feel busy, especially in dense urban areas.

Scale and public feedback

With 10,000,000,000+ installs, Google Maps is aimed at a very broad audience, from daily commuters to occasional travellers. It is developed by Google LLC and listed in Travel & Local. The app has a 3.17 rating from more than 19.3 million reviews, giving prospective users a large body of public feedback to consider alongside its wide coverage and extensive place data.
