What YouTube Kids Does

YouTube Kids is a children-focused video app for families who want a simpler, more controlled way to access online entertainment. It presents age-oriented videos in a kid-friendly interface, with options for parents to guide what appears on screen. The app suits preschoolers and older children who watch cartoons, music, learning videos and other family-oriented content.

Controls for Parents

Parents can choose an age setting, limit viewing time with an in-app timer, block videos or channels, and review what their child has watched. There is also an option to approve content manually, which is useful for younger children or households that prefer a tighter selection rather than an open catalogue.

Finding Familiar Content

The layout uses large controls and straightforward navigation so children can browse with less help. A repeat-watching area makes it easier to return to videos a child already enjoys, while the broader catalogue covers both entertainment and educational viewing. Parents should still check the available content and settings, since no automated filter can match every family’s preferences.

Popularity and Fit

Developed by Google LLC, YouTube Kids is listed in Entertainment and has a 4.20 rating from more than 3.2 million reviews. With 500 million-plus installs, it is a familiar choice for households looking for child-oriented video access alongside basic supervision tools. It is best suited to parents who want children to browse independently while keeping practical limits and content controls close at hand.
